Nutritious Food And A Daily Safety Check

Available to Nelson and Munsonville Residents

Provided by Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services and community volunteers from Nelson and Munsonville.

Many Nelson and Munsonville citizens look forward to Meals On Wheels - a hot, delicious meal delivered to their door Monday, Wednesday and Friday. And for their part, our trained and friendly volunteer drivers also provide a safety check on those participating in the program.

Meals On Wheels began in Nelson on June 1st 2011. Volunteers deliver noontime meals to the homes of Nelson seniors on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Deliveries will typically take an hour and a half to two hours time, depending on the number of deliveries. People who are interested use their own vehicle and must attend a two hour training session to become a volunteer. Volunteers may choose to deliver once a month or more; substitutes are also needed.

The Nelson service is part of the Cheshire County Meals On Wheels program sponsored by Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services (HCS). People with all schedules, interests and abilities help keep our local Meals On Wheels program delivering smiles - and we can use your help, too, whether you want to be hands-on or behind the scenes, and whether you can volunteer once a month or more than one day.

An outreach worker or nurse from Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services will make a home visit to explain the program and determine eligibility.
