Nelson Library’s One World, Many Stories
Summer Reading Program
Our summer programs will be run on Tuesdays at 4:00 pm for a hour. This year we’ll be traveling around the world through books. Come join the adventure!
Tuesday, June 28 ~ This is our first week and we’ll celebrate with a kickoff party! Join us for some yummy treats as we start our world travels in North America! Every child who comes will get a special passport. Come hear a story about kids who live in Mexico, play a fun group game with us, and see a short slide show of amazing places across the continent!
Tuesday, July 5 ~ This week we’re going to Africa. Help us make a giant box pyramid! We’ll play Mulambilwa (African bowling), read stories about African wildlife, and watch a slide show about Africa. Who knows, we might even play some African music!
Tuesday, July 12 ~ Australia, here we come! Come make a Didgerdoo (an Australian flute), play a fun game, and listen to a funny book about someone who lived in Australia! This weeks slideshow will have cool pictures of Australia’s reefs and outback.
Tuesday, July 19 ~ Asia is the largest of all the continents and we’ll explore it this week! Come and create your own zen garden, enjoy a really fun game that Chinese children play, and hear a story about a girl who lives in Asia! We’ll also see some incredible pictures of Mt. Everest in our slideshow!
Tuesday, July 26 ~ Our continent this week is Europe! We’ll make cricket houses to celebrate Italy’s cricket festival, read a few fun books, and have a Bocce championship (that’s Italian hopscotch)! In our slideshow this week we’ll travel through Europe.
Tuesday, August 2 ~ Bbbrrrgghh! It’s going to be cold this week as our summer program goes to Antarctica! We’ll read a book about somewhere chilly, have a fun obstacle course, and watch a cool slideshow. We might even do a fun science experiment!
Tuesday, August 9 ~ The last place we’re traveling to is South America. It’s going to be a fun, rainforest adventure! Our slideshow will take us down the Amazon River. We’ll read a Jan Brett book about rainforest animals, create unique boa constrictors, and play an exciting game!
Wednesday, August 10 at 6:30 pm ~ We’ll be presenting Reptiles on the Move! The show is free & open to the public. We request advanced notice of the need for sign language interpreters. Bring the whole family and join the fun! Supported in part by a grant from the NH State Library & donations from the Bryne Foundation, CHILIS, Cogswell Benevolent Trust & the NH Library Association.
Our summer programs are geared for preschoolers through elementary age kids. For more info call the Nelson library at 847-3214.
